During the course of the years, "Sauber" has practically become a synonym for Swiss motor racing. The town of Hinwil situated in the highlands of Zurich - only a few steps away from the garage in which Peter Sauber had launched his own business in 1970 - today is home to a highly sophisticated racing car factory featuring the whole gamut of state-of-the art technology and equipment. This is where the high-tech racers are built which have been competing for the FIA Formula 1 World Championship since 1993. Twelve years ago, Sauber had just under 70 employees, while today 300 specialists are exclusively dedicated to Formula 1 at the 8000-square metre Hinwil development centre and adjacent wind tunnel facility. In addition, nearly 200 regional suppliers are benefiting from contracts related to the F1 team. Compared to 1993, the team's annual budget has quadrupled within a single decade.
