Between 1993 and 2004 the Sauber team participated in 197 of 199 Grands Prix. The two forfeits concerned the Monaco GP following Karl Wendlinger's fateful crash and the 2000 Brazilian GP for safety reasons due to serious breakage of the rear wings in the practice sessions.
The 227 finishes, 85 of which resulted in Championship points, are contrasted by 163 retirements; seven of these at such a late stage that the drivers concerned were classified - JJ Lehto at Imola in 1994 even in fourth place.
Theoretically, the 16 drivers Sauber has had under contract so far could account for a total of 394 starts. Yet the total is only 390, because on four occasions merely one of the drivers effectively went into the race. In 1994, Karl Wendlinger, recovering from his accident, was absent in Spain, while in the 1996 Australian GP Johnny Herbert was unable to re-start the race following a prior collision, and Morbidelli forfeited his participation in the 1997 Japanese GP after suffering an injury to his hand during the practice sessions. In the Austrian GP in 2003, Heinz-Harald Frentzen was not able to re-start the race due to a clutch problem.
